A successful day out

So today I did something I don't do very often. As it really does terrify me as I worry I wont be able to control my two crazed monkeys. But I went on a day trip with friends, who also have children, on my own with the boys! And I am pleased to report we all survived, we're all still talking and we had the best time. This has now boosted my confidence that I can do these sorts of days when my hubby isn't around.
My husband was working today at a show, Badminton a large horse show, and he was able to get us some tickets along with a couple more for my friends. I hesitated whether to go or not as it is such a large show and with my other friends having children also, I wouldn't have another pair of hand to help me all the time. Us three and our children spend a lot of time together so they do help me out when we do go out but they have their own children to watch and I don't expect their help, even though they both are a huge help.
Then I thought the boys would love it and we would only go crazy the three of us at home and why not give it a go. I do have days out with the boys on my own, places like arboretums, soft plays and familiar beaches, they haven't been that sheltered, but big events worry me like this incase they run off or they play up.
The idea of walking with both boys filled me with dread so I decided to take the pushchair and luckily it hadn't been raining otherwise we would have been wading through a muddy field and there was no way a pushchair would be possible. And I also needed the pushchair to load up with all the bits and pieces that come with children on days out.
We were up early and ready to leave by 9. This made a good start to the day, as most of you will know that getting out the house with children is a mission, and I am known for my lateness - sorry friends and family! We had a picnic packed and loads of snacks as at shows food stands are both busy (my two don't do waiting well) and very very expensive. And I would rather spend our money on rides for the boys.
And off we set.

We got to the show about 10.30 and everyone was happy, yey! We got ourselves all loaded up and headed into the show. It was huge! So many shops, stalls and a lovely fun fair. And full of people. We made our way around until we found my husbands stand where we stopped and chatted for a while. Gave me a little break if I'm honest. It was here we had our first and last (luckily) major blip of the day. Noah had been out of the pushchair and obviously didn't want to get back in. But that over and done with we headed off to find somewhere for our picnic. After a successful lunch we headed for more shops and the fun fair. And the kids loved it! Me on the other hand hated the teacups but these things need to be done lol.

We had ice cream, tested out play houses, saw horses, sat on tractors and had loads more fun and before we knew it, it was time to head home. Even before we had left the ground both boys were sound asleep in the back of the car.

Today was a good day. I know the next day trip out that's without my husband may not be the same but that's how it goes and we just roll with the punches. And even the days that turn out bad will all be full of happy moments and that it what having children is all about.
Good days and bad days but whichever it is we have fun and I love them with all I have. And then at bed time I sigh a sigh of relief and grab that glass of wine.
I love being a Mummy.

  3. I used to put my boys in high viz waistcoats if we were going anywhere large and busy, that way I could spot them easily. I found it helpful and they didn't care.

  6. Awww looks like you had such a good day. I remember when Zach was a baby, being so nervous to leave the house. What if he needed feeding, what if he just screamed. You'd go mad though if you didn't leave the house! Well done for braving this (can't imagine it with two!) - I love the ice cream photo :) Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday
