New Beginnings

As we took the stickers off of the boys walls the emotion was beginning to building up. This is the first house my husband and I bought, the first place we ever lived together. Where we learnt about each other in our entirety and where we realised we wanted to spend our lives together. Both boys came home to here from the hospital, they both took their first steps here. Where they had their first bath and their first taste of real food. This house holds so many memories and I am so lucky that the most part of them are happy.

The fireplace has always been the backdrop on photos for occasions, be it birthdays, Easter or just dressing up at home. That place has been what I think is the center of our home and where most of our memories have been made, in the living room.

I will always remember the boys sat on the big sofa next to each other with a bowl of popcorn each watching films together. The nights I have spent walking along the landing to either or both of their rooms when they were either poorly or restless. This was our home. And I hope the boys remember it with the same fondness I do.

Yes the floor boards squeak, and you can just about swing a cat in Noah's bedroom, but it was our home. We have all laughed here and we have all cried. We have all shouted and have all fallen down the stairs!

The boys have both woken up here on their first Christmas mornings and they have both fallen over on the bumpy path up to the shed that I always said I wanted changing.

This is the house they became best friends in the moment they first met when Noah came home from the hospital. That red door has had so many photos taken in front of it and it's the same door way we have waved goodbye to many family & friends who have visited is. The place I stood crying as my not yet two year old ran to me after I had had Noah and I thought how big he now looked.

My husband and I have shouted at each other and called each other every name under the sun in this house, but this is also the place we had the conversation about starting a family. The place we say I love you and the place my husband always kisses me goodbye in the morning before he goes to work.

It has been our home for nearly 9 years and what an incredible 9 years that has been. It's seen us go from a 2 to a family of 3 then where we completed our family of 4.

It will always mean so much to me but we have so much more to learn and to do in our new house. And we will make that house our home. A home the boys will want to be and that will be their happy place.

Goodbye red door, goodbye squeaking floor boards, but hello to our future. Our new beginning.

  2. Your photos are lovely and you will always have your memories. I moved house after 24 years and there were so many memories there, but if I'm honest I couldn't wait to move because we were so overcrowded. I will still have my memories though. Good luck with your move x

  4. Awww hun! I felt just like this as we left our old house, it was strange thinking of all the memories we had created and I did feel very sad (that being said our old house is still ours as we rent it out) but it was still hard to leave and I admit I shed a tear or 2 when we left. Just think about all of those lovely new memories you will make. Popping over from the #binkylinky

  18. Hi Kirsty, your post and especially your photos gave me goose bumps. The red door was the perfect place for photos and how your children have grown. No one can ever take those memories from you and you've already started making new memories in your new house, which I am sure you will be very happy in for a long time.

    xx

  19. It can be so hard to move when you have so many memories associated with a house, especially related to your children. But you'll make so many new memories in your new home - good luck! #justanotherlinky

  20. It's sooo emotional leaving your first 'family' home behind isn't it? I've moved house more times than I can count on two hands but there's something special about those 'firsts' once the babies come along! Loved all your photos from the house with the red door, I think everyone must have one of those "Stand in front of the xxxx for a picture" spots in the house right? :) Congratulations on your move, it's such a good feeling getting those keys in your hand. Sounds like you're enjoying making new memories already! x #justanotherlinky

  24. Awww bless you. I would be exactly the same - odd how these things take on such significance. But, as you say, they have been the backdrop to so many important moments. But you will always have the moments - and more to come in your new house! Congrats and may you make many more happy memories there :) #justanotherlinky

  27. OK now I am crying! This is so beautiful, you really captured the essence of your home in this post. It is so exciting to move forward and yet so hard to let go. After we had Adam we decided our first 'couple' home was too small. Like you we went from a couple to having all our children in our small and squeaky floored home. We had Aspen, then April and then Adam, we were a family. I loved that home and I still miss it 6 years later. It had a gorgeous picket fence, a country garden and a huge backyard. But the home was old and too small. We built a really large house, our dream home and spent 4 years in it and decided it wasn't the right place for us even though it was stunning. Funnily enough we are downsizing this time. Not as small as the first but not as large or flash as the second. I am hoping when we move in about 10 days we have finally found the home we will live in for avery long and happy time! I just adored your post, big hugs and best wishes!!! #mg

  30. This made me a little teary! We moved house last Summer and we had been there over 10 years. We had so many memories from birthdays, anniversaries, to bringing home our son from hospital. His first step, first taste of food etc etc! on moving day I didn't think I'd really be too bothered about leaving but when we'd packed that very last box and we driving away I did have a little cry!! Good luck with your new adventure xx #justanotherlinky

  31. Isn't it funny how we get so attached to places that produced so many memories??? When we left the house that I had brought all 3 of my babies home to I had such a hard time and even now time hop reminds me of all the good times that were had there. But I love our new house and our new memories too. Thanks again for hostessing #justanotherlinky.

  33. Aw lovely post. We are just in process of arranging a sale & move currently, so really resonates. Our house has caused us a load of problems and work & really excited about the new one, but will still be sad actually about leaving our first, as it's where both girls were born (literally in the case of the second!) & been our family home. #justanotherlinky
