Bedtime On Holiday Seems To Always Be A Battle

Bedtime was never easy for us with Finley until Noah was born. We then got ourselves into a lovely routine of bath, milk, book and bed. And most, not every, nights are lovely and they are asleep by 7.30.

But for some reason when we aren't at home that whole going to bed as good as gold goes out the window!

When I wrote this we were on the third night of our holiday, with one more night to go before we went home, and even though they are both knackered, every night was the same - a battle. But as it was holiday it didn't seem to stress me out as much as it would have at home.

Thankfully Noah is in the travel cot so he can't escape but Finley just kept getting out of bed. For every single reason you could think of!!

A drink - every 2 minutes.
A cuddle.
A kiss.
A wee.
Protests that he's not tired, when I know full well he is.

As I wrote this Finley had been out of bed 15 times and the boys had got onto chatting to each other. This right there is the reason we would never have them in the same room at home.

But what was rather cute and made it a bit better is that when Finley counted to 20, Noah said 'well done ninley!'

So what is it about being away from home that turns our routine upside down?! Maybe it's different surroundings or the excitement from the day is still bubbling but all I wanted was for them to go to sleep and to drink wine!

An hour and a half later and they were sleep!!

Peace at last

  1. Bedtime can be tough when away from home can't it! I guess the unfamiliar surroundings probably play a part. Luckily on our holiday we wore our girls out so much that they went to sleep really quickly!! Thanks for linking up to the #BinkyLinky

  2. We have a good bedtime routine at home but always flex it a bit when we are away. It's not forever and you are generally more relaxed about bedtime taking longer if they aren't so worn out that they pass out.

  3. Bedtime is hard on holiday, because there is so much going on. Fortunately, when we went to Cyprus the time difference was an hour in front, meaning he stayed up until 9pm and would be ready for bed and it wasn't too much change from his regular bedtime. However, this didn't translate to the time we woke up and continued to wake at 6am urgh. Not great after half a bottle of red. lol

  6. During holidays my kids want to stay up as late as possible, sometimes until around 11 pm! Its madness, I can´t take it! #justanotherlinky

  7. We wing it when we're away, although we've occassionally paid for it on return home!

  8. We had a nightmare with our two year old when we stayed in a caravan at Easter - at home we have a gate across the bedroom so he knows he has to get settled and there is no running around the house after lights out - on holiday there was no way of keeping him in bed at all! I guess you've just got to go with it - that is a lesson I've learned - to be more relaxed in future - and just hope that a late night means a lie in in the morning?! :-) Thanks for linking up #thetruthabout

  10. Bedtime routine can be tough when you're on holiday with children.
We went to Thailand for 3 weeks. Not once did the girls settle at their normal bedtime. It was a real struggle to settle them and would take 1-2 or more hours a night.

Thank you so much for linking up with #justanotherlinky Hope too see you again Sunday. xxx

  11. Bedtimes are hard enough at the best of times - all the good work quickly goes out of the window during a holiday doesn’t it?! Thanks for linking up to #sundaystars
